WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE?
Sending your little one to kindergarten is a big step. Somehow this child - who is still your baby - is ready for school. While it’s very common to feel nervous before your child starts school, do your best to remain calm and upbeat around your son or daughter.
Research your options, such as half or full-day kindergarten, and decide what works best for your child and your family.
PREPARING YOUR CHILD
As parents, we are our kids’ first teachers. Set aside time to read with your child each day; not only is it wonderful together time, it also sets your child up for success in school. Take extra care to talk with your child and listen to him tell stories. Sing fun songs and even make up little dances to go along with the lyrics.
Help your child practice skills such as cutting with safety scissors, buttoning/zipping her coat, and cleaning up after herself. You can also prepare your child for school emotionally by setting up play dates with kids that will be in his class. |
